The best sporting guest is prepared, attentive and appreciative. The invitation sets the tone; the host and shoot team set the day’s arrangements.

• Clarify the invitation. Ask about the format, dress, arrival time and what you are expected to bring.
• Prepare appropriately. Read BASC’s current guidance and discuss your experience with the organiser beforehand.
• Dress thoughtfully. Quiet colours, suitable fieldwear and weather-ready footwear work well. Check whether the day expects traditional dress.
• Respect the people and place. Follow the briefing, respect boundaries and keep dogs under the arrangements agreed by the host.
• Close the day graciously. Thank the host and the team. A thoughtful note afterwards is never out of place.
